Traditional Wayuú Bag luwopu (River)
Traditional Wayuú Bag luwopu (River)
This traditional Wayúu bag features beige, light blue, and black tones. The artisan who wove this piece of art named it luwopu, which means "river" or "stream" in Wayuunaiki. It is a tribute to the Ranchería River, the main waterway of the Guajira region. Originating in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and flowing into the city of Riohacha, this river is surrounded by a wide variety of ecosystems. For the Wayúu community, it is not only a vital source of sustenance and life but also one of the most beautiful and sacred natural landscapes.
The kanaá (the design or pattern on the bag) also includes black triangles that represent the dunes: sand mountains found throughout the desert ecosystem of La Guajira and along the Ranchería River.
This mochila, full of cultural symbolism and tradition, is perfect for carrying your essentials due to its medium size. Its neutral tones make it an excellent accessory to pair with both casual and formal outfits.
