Traditional Wayuú bag Apalaanchi (fisherman)
Traditional Wayuú bag Apalaanchi (fisherman)
Traditional Wayúu mochila. This handcrafted piece is a tribute to the Apalaanchi, a term used to refer to Wayúu fishermen who live along the coastal communities of La Guajira. These Indigenous people inhabit stunning locations like Camarones and Bahía Honda. The Apalaanchi rely on the natural resources of the marine environment for their livelihood. They have developed a deep connection with the sea and its creatures, sourcing materials and food from it, including fish, crustaceans, mussels, and even pearls.
The kanaás (pattern) on this mochila represents the fishing nets used by the Apalaanchi.
Beyond its rich symbolism, this mochila is an excellent accessory to showcase and pair with any type of outfit, adding a unique touch of culture and style.
